Leitchfield Utilities – CLASS III-A WATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR

Description:

Leitchfield Utilities is now accepting applications for a Class III-A Water Treatment Plant Operator for its 11-time award winning and 3-time AWOP champion water treatment plant. Candidates will be under general supervision, perform basic technical work in the operation and maintenance of the Utility’s water treatment plant along with its related equipment while assisting in the efficient delivery of safe, potable drinking water to its customers. The opening is for a full-time position with benefits*. Work hours will be nights and some weekends with the opportunity to have 14 days off per month.
A certified operator with a Class III or IV Drinking Water license is preferred, but exceptions may be made for a Class II operator with the ability to obtain a Class III certification within 1 year of hire or if the candidate has an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or environmental related study that allows them to become certified within 1 year of hire.

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE BUT AREN’T LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
• Monitors water flows in basins, clearwells and water towers.
• Collects and performs basic laboratory tests on water samples.
• Must have a basic understanding of computers and Microsoft Office to record test results and other data.
• Under general supervision, adjust chemical feed rates, pumps, valves, filters, etc. to maintain proper operations.
• Operates a variety of machinery and/or equipment such as raw water pumps, finished water pumps, backwash pumps, chemical feed pumps, and lab instrumentation.
• Performs various other operations including filling hoppers with chemicals, back-washing filters, changing pumps, cleaning basins and janitorial duties, etc.
• Subject to be called to work outside of normal working hours to ensure the uninterrupted water service for customers.
• Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the supervisor, customers, plant operators, and the distribution department operators.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Candidate must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment. Must be able to lift or otherwise move objects weighing of up to 60 – 80 lbs. Work involves walking, climbing or standing for periods of time. Must be able to bend, kneel, crouch, climb and reach.
