The Division of Water is seeking candidates with excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills to serve as an Environmental Scientist IV in the Municipal Planning Section of the Division of Water. This position allows the incumbent to work across organizational lines, as well as with the public, and regulated community providing technical and scientific assistance to public water system in management and financial planning.

Tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:

Serves as a technical, scientific advisor for program development and program process reports related to the managerial and financial assessment of public water systems.
Serves as technical and scientific advisor to assist public water systems in developing asset management plans for capital infrastructure.
Provides education and outreach to the regulated community and public officials.
Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:

Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
Data collection and analysis
Ability to effectively communicate with the public and with the regulated community
Development and delivery of scientific reports and presentations

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor’s degree in a natural, biological or physical science OR Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor’s degree including or supplemented by 20 semester hours in a natural, biological or physical science.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Five years of experience in natural resources, environmental control, or a related area.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Graduate study in a natural, biological, or physical science will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in natural resources, environmental control, engineering, or a related area will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Work is typically performed in an office setting. Incumbents in this class may perform work in the field with frequent travel on a statewide basis. An incumbent in the position may be subject to adverse weather conditions, exposure to snake and insect bites, water-borne pathogens, broken glass, and rusty metal in streams. Electrocution from electro-fishing equipment is possible.

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
